How can the study of economics help us understand the ecosocial crisis beyond just viewing nature as a means to an end? Do the textbooks we use in our universities and institutes acknowledge the historical importance of colonialism? Should we continue to approach knowledge through abstract models? To address these and other questions, we have developed a learning journey that challenges prevailing economic paradigms and explores the major challenges facing humanity from a multidisciplinary perspective.
This Summer Course aims to explore the main issues of the 21st century across different geographical levels and through various theoretical and practical perspectives, including Marxism, post-Keynesianism, environmentalism, feminism and post-colonialism, among others. It suggests the need to search for new paths for social change and encourages critical and constructive thinking to address global challenges and pursue a feasible and sustainable alternative. Recognising this range of perspectives, some of which may even conflict, we are setting up a discussion to enhance the theory, analysis, and practical application in economics.
The Summer Course will include a series of panel discussions where various specialists will present their views on the topic, followed by an invitation to the public to intervene with questions and contributions to the debate. These panel discussions will be complemented by an international forum between different national and international critical economics associations. During the afternoon of the first day, a boat trip will be organized on the Bilbao Estuary, where two speakers will share their experiences and local knowledge to critically narrate the various urban changes that have shaped the current metropolitan landscape.

PLEASE NOTE that due to the large number of requests scholarships are not available anymore.
In order to obtain a scholarship it is essential to:
- Live outside Bilbao.
- Be able to communicate verbally in Spanish.
- Attend the entire course.
Due to the limited number of places available, priority will be given to those who meet the following requirements:
- Being enrolled in a university degree or pursuing postgraduate studies in subjects related to the course.
- Having been or being involved in a social movement, student, youth or neighborhood association, etc., will be valued.
- Order of registration.
We offer 3 types of scholarships:
1. Scholarship that covers the tuition of the course in face-to-face modality.
2. Scholarship that covers the tuition of the course in streaming modality.
3. Scholarship that covers the tuition of the course in face-to-face modality, and in addition:
- Accommodation for two nights (Sunday, July 14 and Monday, July 15) in a shared room in a hostel with 3 other people of the same gender.
- Reimbursement of a maximum of €100 for transportation at the end of the course and upon presentation of the corresponding documentation.
